Anyone into skin care will have heard the term Exfoliation..

Exfoliation is the process of removing old, dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface, to help maintain healthy skin. Exfoliation is a very important part of skin care routine, be it any skin type (OILY, DRY OR COMBINATION), But Exfoliating Acne prone skin is not just important, but necessary and also with caution.

Acne-prone skin produces more dead skin cells than normal and these cells don’t shed properly and they remain stuck on the skin’s surface creating a clog (leading to whiteheads and blackheads). That’s the reason regular exfoliation is so important for acne prone skin types. There are over hundreds of exfoliating products and procedures available today, but all are found in one of two forms: Physical and Chemical Exfoliation.

Am talking about Physical Exfoliation.

Physical Exfoliation involves manually removing dead skin cells with the help of an abrasive ingredient. Like an over-the-counter scrub, or a professional procedure, such as micro dermabrasion. Physical scrubs leave your skin feeling soft and smooth, gets rid off the dead skin cell for a clearer skin.

So here are some Scrubs have used so far that you can consider.

QUEEN HELENE MINT JULEP SCRUB – Love this scrub. I apply it on my face and leave it on for like 5minutes, allowing the mint to go in and rinse off. Its available on http://www.thebeautyboon.com

AVEENO POSITIVELY RADIANT SKIN BRIGHTENING DAILY SCRUB – Have been using this scrub for years and I love it. It leaves my skin clean and brightened. Its also gentle enough to be used everyday. (Gotten from Thebeautyboon)

OLAY REGENERIST LUMINOUS BRIGHTENING CREAM CLEANSER – This is a cleanser, but has very fine micro beads in it so I also consider it an exfoliator.. It’s nice, creamy and also brightens. Cause I have oily skin and this Olay cleanser is creamy, I always like to cleanse first with an ACNE wash to take off all the oil before using this.. Can’t find this anywhere online in Naija, I got it from a supermarket in my area.

GLAMGLOW EXFOLIATING SCRUB –  Got this deluxe size in a Glamglow mask set..It a gentle exfoliator.. Has no bead at all. Its just like a mud exfoliator and I definitely love it.. Its gentle enough to be used daily. You can preorder this from @the_df_store on instagram if you are in Nigeria.

CLEARACIL ULTRA RAPID ACTION FACE SCRUB –  Another favourite of mine..Clears the skin and brightens with continues use. Used three to four times a week. (Gotten from Thebeautyboon)

ST’IVES BLEMISH CONTROL APRICOT SCRUB – Have had this for long tho. I hardly use it because the beads are too big..But if you don’t mind that, you can try it. (Thebeautyboon)

MURAD SKIN SMOOTHING POLISH – Congested pores? just pick this up, gently rub on your face in a circular motion, leave for 5minutes then rinse off and you will instantly feel  fresh air going into your skin.i use it twice a week. Truly exfoliates and clears my pores . Gotten from Montaigneplace at Ikeja City Mall.

MURAD AHA/BHA EXFOLIATING CLEANSE – Leaves my skin clean and clear. Gentle enough to be used everyday. love it. Also from Montaigneplace

NOTE: When I said “Exfoliating is necessary but with CAUTION” on acne prone skin. Here is why, a scrub ( especially those with huge beads) leads to friction on the skin that can irritate already inflamed skin, cause redness and promote additional breakouts. So I would suggest that if you have active inflamed acne on your face, you should avoid physical exfoliators or choose the kind of scrubs that are very mild on the skin with the tiniest beads or no beads at all.

Please ALWAYS do your research on ingredients of what you are buying before you buy. Its important please.

If you need help choosing an exfoliant, don’t hesitate to ask your dermatologist for guidance. Your doctor will be able to recommend a product or procedure that is both safe and effective for your skin.

Unless recommended by your doctor, avoid using several exfoliating products at the same time. Doing so may cause redness, excessive dryness, peeling, and considerable irritation.

If you leave in Nigerian and you want to get any of this, ask in the comment section and I will reply.

Have a fab day.

  1. Much needed post.
You forgot to add where we could purchase each item.
I want to try the Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub, haven’t found where to buy yet.
The St. Ives Apricot Scrub is good too but the beads are quite big and somewhat rough.
Will you do a full post on your Murad Haul?
