Today’s review is on The Ordinary VitaminC Suspension 23% + Ha Spheres 2%.
Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant and its pure form of L-Ascorbic Acid has been shown to reverse multiple signs of skin ageing while brightening the skin when applied topically. This water-free, silicone-free formula provides 23% pure L-Ascorbic Acid which remains completely stable due to the absence of water. The system is supported with addition of dehydrated spheres of Hyaluronic Acid to offer visible surface smoothing alongside the benefits of Vitamin C. This treatment is ideally applied at bedtime.

The product comes packaged in a plastic tube with a flip cap. The product can be dispensed easily and there is enough control to manage the amount of product being dispensed.
TEXTURE; By the brand
The format of this formula is a suspension of very fine L-Ascorbic Acid powder and, as such, provides the most direct exposure of extremely high concentrations of Vitamin C topically.
A very strong tingling but non-irritating sensation is expected during the first 1-2 weeks of use until the skin’s tolerance to such high exposure is elevated;
The powder exposure to the skin disallows the formula to feel like a serum, lotion or cream and each application requires a few seconds to feel absorbed by the skin. If desired, this formula can be diluted in a cream base per application to allow the skin to build tolerance over time.
The texture of The Ordinary VitaminC Suspension 23% + Ha Spheres 2% when squeezed out of the tube, looks like a smooth lotion and it spreads easily. But the moment you apply this to your skin, you will feel a sandy texture on your skin and under your fingers (which is duo to the L-Ascorbic Acid powder).The texture is horrible to me. I get angry applying it on my skin. It almost feels like you’re rubbing invisible sand all over your face and it takes forever before you don’t feel it again.. If not applied gently on the skin, it can actually feel a little painful.
The box said that the product can be use AM or PM. I went with AM application at first. After application, the product just sits on my skin and not get absorbed. The brand does say that the product takes a few seconds to get absorbed. Nahhh! Even after 10-15 minutes, the product is still sitting on my skin looking greasy yet feels dry when I touch my skin. I don’t know, it’s just weird… Anything I apply after the Suspension, be it sunscreen or makeup didn’t absorb into my skin. Everything just sits on it.
Still didn’t want to give up on it, I tried using it at night. It still performed the same way, didn’t absorb into my skin and any product I apply post application didn’t absorb either. But I could still manage it alone at night than in the day. I still tried to use it a couple of times to see if the results I get will make me continue to use it. My skin did feel supple and plump thanks to the Hyaluronic acid in it, but not enough for me to continue using it. I have used different VitaminC serum and am not gonna lie, they performed better than this although more expensive.
Aside from the gritty texture and greasiness, The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension tingles and you may feel a slight burning sensation for the first week of use. This goes away after some minutes.. Although they warn you on the box that you can expect a stinging sensation. But seriously, after that gritty texture?
Overall, I have nothing positive to say about this product. It’s just not for me. Will I repurchase? Obviously NO. I can’t even empty the tube with me, there is nothing I like about.. But you can try it if you want to.
